The late MARK RANDALL OSBORN completed his PhD in music composition at the University of California, San Diego in 2000 under the tutelage of Brian Ferneyhough. He received his Bachelor's degree there as well studying with Roger Reynolds and Joji Yuasa. In between he got his Master's degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 1994, where he studied composition with Mel Powell, and conducting with Stephen Mosko, focusing on the presentation of works by composers from the American experimental tradition.

Mark Osborn at ease His percussion sextet Interregna was performed as a finalist in the 1998 Gaudeamus competition. His chamber work Arms of Morpheus received the 1998 Kranichsteiner Musik Preis, and his chamber work The Fluid Pronoun, commissioned by the ensemble Sonor, was a finalist in the Ensemble Intercontemporain commissioning panel. Mark passed away in a tragic accident in 2002 which left his community of friends and admirers shell shocked: such a great talent to have left us so soon.
